Responsible AI is now a delivery responsibility

AI delivery teams are moving fast but the systems they build must now do more than work. They must show how they handle risk.

Until recently, questions of fairness, accountability and explainability sat with most organisations’ governance and legal teams. However, in 2025, that going to shift. Risk governance will transition into a delivery function, one that’s embedded in design decisions, sprint rituals, and audit activities.

The impact

  • Agile teams need new rituals.
    Sprints now need to include risk artefacts. This means the “Definition of done” must evolve to include structured accountability. And build pipelines must catch risk as much as they do regressions.
  • New standards define new expectations.
    NIST AI RMF and ISO/IEC 23894 will formalise how AI risk is mapped, measured and managed, and they’ve been designed to fit neatly into how teams already work.
  • Engineering must now deliver evidence.
    Covering model cards and bias logs to incident response and stakeholder maps, delivery teams will now be responsible for showing how they’ve made trust observable and auditable.

The opportunity

For teams already championing the agile methodology, this change will feel like more of a refinement to process. NIST and ISO 23894 are frameworks that reinforce delivery culture: feedback loops, traceability, decision logs and shared accountability.

The key is being ahead of this and as organisational leaders getting your teams aligning now, so that they can move faster, avoid rework, and be ready should an audit be required.
